Contextualize 360° images

You can contextualize 360° images by manually uploading 360° image files and using a single select file for contextualization or leveraging the 360° image contextualization within a scene.

tip

When you're contextualizing 3D objects, use the unified 3D contextualization editor for CAD, Point clouds, or 360° images. You'll see the context for a scene and locate specific structures, such as identifying where a 360° image is positioned in the scene or determining which equipment a point cloud represents.

If you set your project to hybrid mode, the 360° image contextualization won't support data modeling.

Before you start

Make sure you have already uploaded the 360° images you want to contextualize. For more information on uploading 360° images, see Upload 360° images.

Contextualize

Select the 360° image collection and Open it to start the contextualization process within the 3D environment. You can also add the 360° image collection to a scene and start contextualizing from within the scene.

Contextualize 360° images within a scene

In the scene overview, under the 3D content tab, find the 360° image collection you want to contextualize. Select the 360° image and select Contextualize to start the contextualization. For more information, see Unified 3D contextualization.

Now, select a 360° image to open it. Inside the 360° image, you'll have the contextualization tools.

  1. Select Create bounding box to create a bounding area in a 360° image. Select a point and move the cursor to create a box of any shape. Press Esc to complete the drawing.

You can create multiple bounding areas. The color of the bounding area is pink.

  1. Use the search bar in the resource selector on the top right to find the asset you want to map to the selected object.

  2. Select the asset, verify it is correct, and select Link.

You have created an annotation (contextualized bounding area).

In the newly created annotation, you can zoom in/out, show/hide, link/relink, and delete the annotation. The annotation will appear under the selected image in the left sidebar. You can see which 360° image has annotations and not.

Tools in contextualization

  • Settings opens visualization controls:

    • Image transparency: Use the slider to control the transparency level of the 360° image with the CAD model in the background. This fine-tunes the visibility between the two layers.

    • 360° markers: Customize marker visibility to enhance your image analysis and inspection experience:

    • X-ray mode: Turn on and off to reveal the hidden markers or display all the 360° markers within the same view.

    • Visibility: Turn markers on and off.

    • Transparency: Adjust marker transparency to balance visibility with other visual elements.

  • Select Measurements Distance measuring tool icon to measure the distance between any two points in the scene.

  • Turn on and off grid axis directions using Show or hide axis in the toolbar.

  • In the top bar, navigate between 360° images. X closes the image, and you can return to the last one you opened.

  • After adding an annotation, in the resource selector, use Filters Filter icon to refine the results. Use to sort and select columns. You can sort by name, object type, location, and more. For more information, see Search.

  • In the resource selector, you can switch between List view and Tree view.

  • To zoom an annotation, select Zoom to annotation.

Update or delete annotation

In 360° images, you have a 1:1 relationship between assets and areas. Therefore, you can only link one asset to a bounding area. You can relink, update, or delete an annotation.

To relink the bounding area to a different asset or to update the annotation:

  1. Use the cursor tool and select the annotated area.

  2. Search for the asset you want to map to the selected area.

  3. Select Link.

You have updated the annotation.

To delete the annotation:

  1. Open the Annotations dropdown.

  2. Search for the asset you want to delete. Hover over each annotation to see the highlighted objects.

  3. Select Delete icon to delete the annotation.

You have deleted the annotation.
