Flows custom apps builder certification is required to build with Flows custom apps in any customer environment. This certification ensures builders are proficient with the latest Flows custom apps template, adhere to engineering and design best practices, and can safely operate within CDF projects using live data.

Certification scope and validity

  • Who it covers: Individual builders who demonstrate proficiency by submitting a compliant Flows custom app
  • What it covers: Authorization to build with Flows custom apps in customer environments, subject to app-level certification for production deployments
  • Validity: Six months from the date your submitted app passes review

How to get certified

1

Attend a builder certification session

Join an upskilling session. Attendance alone does not certify you, but you’ll get everything needed to complete the process.
Contact your Cognite representative to join the session.
2

Build a Flows custom app

Create an app that solves a problem for a real user. Follow the Get started with Flows custom apps guide for the complete setup process.
3

Complete self-assessment checklists

Complete the self-assessment using the Cognite Flows custom apps quality guidelines, including both engineering requirements and the 10-question design assessment to verify your app meets all certification requirements before submitting. Target score: 3.8+ on design quality assessment.
4

Submit your application for review

Submit your application. It will be reviewed by the engineering and design teams.
Once the application is reviewed and you receive your builder certification, you can start building Flows custom apps across customer projects.
Production deployments require a separate application review for each app, even if you are an active certified builder.

Recertification

To maintain active status, ensure your app aligns with the latest Flows custom apps template and guidelines before your six-month certification expires. This ensures your skills and implementations reflect current best practices.

Troubleshooting common issues

No. Sessions provide guidance and expectations, but certification is granted only after your app passes the engineering and design reviews.
No. Your application must operate with live data in a CDF project to qualify for certification. Demo or mock data will not be accepted for review.
No. Builder certification allows you to build across customers, but each production app still requires its own Cognite Flows application certification before deployment.
You must recertify by submitting a current, compliant app aligned with the latest Cognite Flows template and guidelines before your six-month certification expires.
Exceptions are considered case by case. Document the reason in your submission notes. Reviewers will assess whether the exception is justified based on technical constraints or business requirements.
