About Cognite Copilots

Cognite Copilots are AI-powered assistants that help you get the data you need. Use Copilot for filtering categories when you search for data, ask questions about content in one or multiple documents on a canvas, or summarize content from a document. If you're a developer creating interactive notebook documents in Cognite Data Fusion (CDF), Copilot helps you generate code snippets or change existing code.

Note

Copilot's answers depend on the data that's ingested into CDF and how you phrase your questions.

Beta

The features described in this section are currently in beta testing and are subject to change.

Copilot identifies relevant categories and applies filters to questions (prompts) you've entered in the search field. Formulate the question as if you're speaking to another person. If you ask about aggregated data, such as Show me work orders per program completed this year, Copilot creates a bar chart with the data. You can also manually enter chart data by selecting View data in graph ( ) from Copilot's search result page.

  1. Navigate to search and enter a question in the search field.

  2. Select Let Copilot navigate categories and filters.

    AI query

Here are some examples of how to ask questions:

    • Help me find work orders due this week

    • How many hours of work are planned for work orders in 2024, and what’s their status?

    • Help me find severe notifications that occurred yesterday

  3. If you don't get any results, simplify your query or select Filters to fine-tune or add new filters.

Copilot for documents

Copilot answers questions about content in one or multiple documents or creates a document summary. If you've asked a question, you can ask Copilot to generate ideas, tables, or lists that you can copy to a clipboard or add as a sticky note on a canvas.

Copilot will always provide references with citations to where the information is from.

  1. Navigate to search and open a .pdf document or navigate to Canvas and select one or multiple .pdf documents (Shift + Enter).

  2. Select the Copilot icon .

    AI query

Here are some examples of how to ask questions:

  • What's the maximum operating temperature for this equipment?

  • Who manufactured this equipment?

  • What must be done before transporting the equipment?

Note

Copilot for documents works best on text documents in .pdf format. Copilot can search a maximum of 100 documents.

Copilot for code

Beta

The features described in this section are currently in beta testing and are subject to change.

Copilot is integrated into Jupyter Notebook. Use Copilot to generate code snippets by inputting your coding intentions in natural language to generate Python code snippets based on your description or change existing code with suggestions from Copilot.

What are prompts?

Prompts are how you ask Copilot questions or to do something for you, such as creating, summarizing, or editing. Think about prompting like having a conversation, using plain but clear language, and providing context like you would with an assistant.

  • Tell Copilot what you need. Be specific, avoid using many constraints in the same question, and focus on the key elements when phrasing your question.
  • Copilot understands synonyms. For instance, questions about notifications also return results about alerts.
  • Use quotation marks. This helps Copilot know what to write, modify, or replace for you.
  • Start fresh. Avoid interrupting and type “New topic” when switching tasks.
  • Communicate clearly. Pay attention to punctuation, grammar, and capitalization.

Check for accuracy

Copilot doesn't always get it right. Always check Copilot's responses for accuracy, and watch out for irrelevant or inappropriate content.
