Cognite Grafana plug-in

Grafana is an open-source analytics platform that lets you create, explore, and share dashboards with others. Learn more about Grafana at Grafana.com.

With the Cognite Grafana plug-in you can use Grafana to query, visualize, alert on and understand time series data that is stored in Cognite Data Fusion.

Follow these steps to get up and running with the Cognite Grafana plug-in:

Step 1. Get and start your Grafana Cloud instance

  1. Navigate to https://grafana.com/ and click Get Grafana.

  2. Select Get your free instance now to test Grafana with the free single user hosted Grafana Cloud instance.

    You can also choose to run Grafana locally, or get a paid hosted instance for more users.

  3. Follow the prompts to sign up for or log in to your Grafana.com account and click Start your Grafana Cloud instance.

Step 2. Install the Cognite Grafana Datasource plug-in

  1. On your Grafana Home Dashboard, under Installed Datasources in the lower, right-hand corner, click Browse Grafana.com.

    Click Browse Grafana.com

  2. Scroll down to find and select the Cognite Data Fusion data source.

  3. Click Install Plugin.

  4. Click Install Now.

  5. Navigate back to your Grafana Cloud instance and check that the Cognite plug-in is installed.

Step 3: Connect your Grafana Cloud instance to data in Cognite Data Fusion

  1. In the left-hand bar in your Grafana Could instance, select Configuration > Data Sources.

    Click Configuration and then Data Sources

  2. Click Add data source.

  3. Choose Cognite Data Fusion as the data source type.

  4. Give your datasource a Name, and specify the Project and your API key to authenticate with Cognite Data Fusion.

    If you don't have your own Cognite Data Fusion project yet, you can test your setup with an API key and data from the Open Industrial Data project. The API key generated for the Open Industrial Data project is a read-only key, and you can not create or change any data in the project. See Get your API key to learn how to get an API key for the Open Industrial Data project.

    The project name for the Open Industrial Data project is publicdata.

  5. Click Save & Test to validate your credentials and setup.

    Click Save and Test

When your credentials have been validated, you're ready to create your own graphs and dashboards in Grafana with time series data from Cognite Data Fusion.
