# Server requirements

> Hardware, software, and network requirements for installing the WITSML extractor.

You can install the extractor on a physical server or a virtual machine on-premises or in the cloud for service providers supporting containers, such as Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and Amazon Web Services (AWS).

## Memory

* Minimum: 2GB RAM / 30 GB storage.
* Recommended: 4GB RAM / 30 GB storage.

These requirements apply to the simple deployment method.

## CPU

* Minimum: 2-core CPU.
* Recommended: 4-core CPU.

## Software

* WITSML server compliant to [Energistics WITSML 1.4.1.1 schema](https://energistics.org/sites/default/files/schema/WITSML_v1.4.1.1_Data_Schema_with_Raster_v1.0/witsml_v1.4.1.1_data/index_witsml_schema.html)
* Container based environment (Docker)

## Network access

* User name and password for connecting to the WITSML server.
* Access to [Cognite's internal Docker registry](http://eu.gcr.io/cognite-registry/witsml-connector). Contact [Cognite Support](https://cognite.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new) to get access.
