# About Cognite Studio for Petrel extractor

> Learn about the Cognite Studio for Petrel extractor that streams Petrel object data to Cognite Data Fusion (CDF) as protobuf objects.

The Cognite Studio for Petrel extractor connects to [SLB Studio for Petrel](https://www.software.slb.com/products/studio/studio-environment-for-petrel-users) through the [Ocean SDK](https://docs.ocean.dwavesys.com/en/stable/getting_started.html). It streams Petrel object data to the CDF [files service](/api-reference/concepts/20230101/files) as [protobuf](https://developers.google.com/protocol-buffers) objects.

The extractor loads data incrementally and only updates and inserts the modified objects as new data revisions to CDF.

The extractor is available as a [Windows installer](/cdf/integration/guides/extraction/petrel_studio/petrel_studio_setup).
