# Detect deviations

Cognite BestDay continuously runs data science models to detect production deviations. A deviation is regarded as the difference between actual production and the BestDay capacity estimation. BestDay detects deviations intraday, allowing for timely actions. The detected deviations highlight your capacity utilization through the production hierarchy. Use the insights you get from the data generated around production deviations to reduce the duration and impact of deviations and to analyze performance patterns over time.

# View detected deviations across BestDay views

Detected deviations are displayed across all the views in BestDay for different system levels. Use this as a starting point for troubleshooting deviations through access to real-time sensor data, scheduled deferments, contextualized links to custom advisors, and access to Cognite Charts (opens new window).

# KPI dashboard

The KPI dashboard shows the number of deviations and the overall average or total volume in a set period. On the Breakdown per product panel, you'll see deviations for each hydrocarbon product. The graph on the Production panel shows the deviation volume per day as a grey shaded area between the production bars and the BestDay capacity line. The Deviations and Deferments panel shows actual or scheduled deviations and deferments. Select to view these separately or jointly to compare volume.

# Deep dive

On the Deep dive page, you can open the Deviations side panel, which lists all the detected deviations for the current system, subsystem, or well you are looking into.

Filter deferments

The Deviations side panel shows the list of detected deviations for the selected system level. Click a deviation to see more details, such as timeframe, volume, affected products, and source.

  1. Select Status to set a new status for the deviation. The default value is Detected. The other options are Resolved or Ignored.

  2. Select Linked deferments to link the deviation to a deferment. Click Filter to filter the deferments, for instance, according to ongoing and volume.

  3. Enter comments to discuss and interact with your co-workers in the Comments field and view a log of all actions made on a deviation on Log tabs.

All deviation comments and status updates are maintained, stored, and made available through the Cognite Data Fusion APIs and the Export option in the application.
