# 3D Asset Mapping

> Map 3D model nodes to assets in Cognite Data Fusion (CDF).

The 3D asset mapping API lets you create and manage links between 3D model nodes and CDF assets. This connection enables you to navigate from a 3D visualization to the corresponding asset data (time series, events, files) and vice versa.

## Why map nodes to assets?

Mapping 3D nodes to assets lets you:

* **Navigate from 3D to data** — Click a node in a 3D view to see its associated time series, events, or files
* **Navigate from data to 3D** — Start from an asset and locate its representation in one or more 3D models
* **Enrich visualizations** — Display live asset data alongside 3D geometry

## Key operations

You can create mappings, update them, and query them in several ways:

* **Filter by bounding box** — Find nodes within a spatial region
* **Find mappings for an asset** — Retrieve all 3D mappings for a given asset across models

  Asset mappings are per-model and per-revision. When you update a revision, you may need to recreate or verify mappings.
